How to remove Virus from USB Drives ?

One of the ways by which a virus can infect your PC is through USB/Pen drives. Common viruses such as ’Ravmon’ , ‘New Folder.exe’, ‘Orkut is banned’ etc are spreading through USB drives. Most anti virus programs are unable to detect them and even if they do, in most cases they are unable to delete the file, only quarantine it. Here are the things which you can do if you want to remove such viruses from your USB Drive

Whenever you plug a USB drive in your system, a window will appears

Don’t click on Ok , just choose ‘Cancel’. Open the Command Prompt by typing ‘cmd‘ in the run box. In the command prompt type the drive letter: and press enter . Now type dir /w/a and press enter.

This will display a list of the files in the pen drive. Check whether the following files are there or not
Autorun.inf
Ravmon.exe
New Folder.exe
svchost.exe
Heap41a
or any other exe file which may be suspicious.

If any of the above files are there, then probably the USB drive is infected. In command prompt type attrib -r -a -s -h *.* and press enter. This will remove the Read Only, Archive, System and hidden file attribute from all the files. Now just delete the files using the command del filename. example del Ravmon.exe. Delete all the files that are suspicious. To be on a safer side, just scan the USB drive with an anti virus program to check whether it is free of virus or not. Now remove the drive and plug it again. In most of the cases, the real culprit turns out to be the “Autorun.inf file which mostly gets executed when someone clicks Ok in the dialog window which appears above. Thus the infections can spread

Disable the Autoplay feature of USB drives. If you disable the Autoplay feature of USB drives, then there are lesser chances of the virus spreading. A tool which can perform such a function is Tweak UI. Download it from here install it.

Run the program. Now you can disable the Autoplay feature of the removable drives as shown above. By following the above steps, you can keep your USB drives clean.

Computer Reboot automatically gives Stop Error 0x0000007E, BSOD error

Stop Error 0x0000007E After SP3 is installed , Gives BSOD Stop Error for a second and reboot again.Problem after installation of Windows XP Service Pack 3. Computer Restarts after start up, it prompts for a reboot. This process will continue unless the computer is started in Safe Mode. In Safe mode the computer boots correctly and everything seems fine.

This problem only appears on some systems after upgrading to SP3. This particular problem on systems that have been prepared with SysPrep. The sysprep image was created on an Intel based computer, and then the sysprep image is deployed on a Non-Intel system such as an AMD processor. In these cases, the registry entry for Intelppm is incorrectly set and causes the computer to go into a continuous reboot after the service pack has installed.

How Can I Solve This Problem?

Follow these steps to resolve this issue with the computer not booting correctly after SP3 is installed.

1) Start your computer in Safe Mode.
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter. This will open the Registry Editor.
3) Click the pluses(+) next to the following registry keys to navigate to the correct spot. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Intelppm4) In the right hand column find the entry titled START and double-click on it
5) Change the number to 4 and click Ok
6) Close the Registry Editor
7) Shut down your computer and restart
This time the computer should restart normally and finish the installation of SP3.

How to remove new folder exe or regsvr exe or autorun inf virus ?

Remove virus Manually as it eats up Ur my empty hard disk space of around 700 MB .

This virus is know popularly as regsvr.exe virus, or as new folder.exe virus and most people identify this one by seeing autorun.inf file on their pen drives,

But trend micro identified it as WORM_DELF.FKZ. It is spreading mostly using this pen drives as the medium.

Manual Process of removal

I prefer manual process simply because it gives me option to learn new things in the process.

1.Cut The Supply Line
Search for autorun.inf file. It is a read only file so you will have to change it to normal by right clicking the file , selecting the properties and un-check the read only option.
Open the file in notepad and delete everything and save the file.
Now change the file status back to read only mode so that the virus could not get access again.

2. Click start->run and type msconfig and click ok
Go to startup tab look for regsvr and uncheck the option click OK.
Click on Exit without Restart, cause there are still few things we need to do before we can restart the PC.
Now go to control panel -> scheduled tasks, and delete the At1 task listed their.

If you are Windows XP Home Edition user you might not have gpedit.msc in that case download and install it from Windows XP Home Edition: gpedit.msc and then follow these steps.
Go to users configuration->Administrative templates->system
Find “prevent access to registry editing tools and change the option to disable.

Once you do this you have registry access back.3.Launch The Attack At Heart Of Castle
Click on start->run and type regedit and click ok
Go to edit->find and start the search for regsvr.exe,

3. Delete all the occurrence of regsvr.exe; remember to take a backup before deleting. KEEP IN MIND regsvr32.exe is not to be deleted. Delete regsvr.exe occurrences ONLY.

At one ore two places you will find it after explorer.exe in theses cases only delete the regsvr.exe part and not the whole part. E.g. Shell = Exlorer.exe regsvr.exe just delete the regsvr.exe and leave the explorer.exe

4.Seek And Destroy the enemy soldiers, no one should be left behind
 Click on start->search->for files and folders.
 Their click all files and folders
 Type “*.exe as filename to search for
 Click on ‘when was it modified ‘ option and select the specify date option
 Type from date as 1/31/2008 and also type To date as 1/31/2008

 Now hit search and wait for all the exe’s to show up.
 Once search is over select all the exe files and shift+delete the files, caution must be taken so that you don’t delete the legitimate exe file that you have installed on 31st January.
 Also selecting lot of files together might make your computer unresponsive so delete them in small bunches.
 Also find and delete regsvr.exe, svchost .exe( notice an extra space between the svchost and .exe)

5.Time For Celebrations

Now do a cold reboot (ie press the reboot button instead) and you are done.

Say thanks if useful to u
